Patriarchal Mapping (2020)
A continuing dialogue with my Digging (2017) work, this ‘detective board’ of string, maps, text and images taking up part of one wall,
shows the archive and process of connecting all the family stories, places, people and memories I have collected and used within the context of my overall body of work. My cultural identity as a second generation Canadian is difficult to define, as it has been split between the country I grew up in and the country I grew up hearing about through oral stories. Attempting to reconcile this duality of identity, I use photographic installations and videos as expressions of connections between my own experiences as a natural born Canadian, with that of my family’s within Poland, from cultural, geographical and societal contexts.
